BONs employ a variety of people with specialized skills who all work towards accomplishing this mission. On the front line of public protection are the staff members of a BON’s discipline department. In this issue’s “A Day in the Life of a Nursing Regulator,” Brett Thompson, JD, director, Discipline, Mississippi Board of Nursing (MSBON), provides a glimpse into her day as the lead prosecutor for the MSBON.

And so, you know, we encourage this big-picture idea, not to be, you know, siloed in a vacuum staring at a piece of paper about someone's life, we try to think about all of the components of their humanity and figure out how to be, you know, a just contributor to the best possible outcome. So, I love this website and I love these people. And they always put out brilliant ideas that are very useful in any line of work that you're in. But I particularly like...there are six principles of trauma- informed approach, mostly because it's applicable to just about any profession line of work.

The National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) is a not-for-profit organization whose purpose is to provide an organization through which boards of nursing act and counsel together on matters of common interest and concern affecting the public health, safety and welfare, including the development of licensing examinations in nursing. Although the NLC has been enacted in the Virgin Islands, an implementation process must be completed before its residents will be able to apply for a multistate license and before nurses in other NLC states who hold a multistate license will be able to practice there. The implementation date has not been set. Full implementation may take anywhere from six months to one year. Once an implementation date is determined, it will be posted on the Virgin Islands Board of Nurse Licensure website . Currently nurses in the Virgin Islands cannot obtain a multistate license until implementation is completed. Likewise, nurses in other NLC states with a multistate license may not practice in the Virgin Islands until implementation is complete.

The National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) is a not-for-profit organization whose purpose is to provide an organization through which boards of nursing act and counsel together on matters of common interest and concern affecting the public health, safety and welfare, including the development of licensing examinations in nursing. Just as we are required to obtain a new driver’s license when relocating to a new primary state of residency, the same type of requirement applies to nurses who hold a compact license and are relocating to another compact state.” Nurses can enroll at no cost in Nursys e-Notify to receive notifications related to license renewals at www.nursys.com .
