Where Practice Takes Place Lawful practice requires that a nurse be licensed or have the privilege to practice in the state where the patient or recipient of practice is located at the time nursing service is provided unless an exemption is in place.

And it definitely looks like the questions won't be stopping any time soon unless you have data to provide. As we've seen from the sample survey results we shared earlier from Alaska and Vermont, data shows that nurses overwhelmingly want their state to join the compact. Nevertheless, as Jim points out, there are still other questions that are raised when a state is considering the compact. Although we have anecdotal evidence based on the performance and experience of states in the compact over the past 21 years, we do not have research-based data in many of the areas where questions exist.
