NCSBN Award Ceremony to Honor Outstanding Nurse Regulators | NCSBN

The National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) is a not-for-profit organization whose purpose is to provide an organization through which boards of nursing act and counsel together on matters of common interest and concern affecting the public health, safety and welfare, including the development of licensing examinations in nursing. Individuals receiving this award have made sustained and significant contributions through the highest commitment and dedication to the mission and vision of NCSBN. Sue Tedford, MNSc, APRN, executive director, Arkansas State Board of Nursing, will receive the Meritorious Service Award, which is granted to a member for significant contributions to the mission and vision of NCSBN. Patricia Towler, board staff, Nevada State Board of Nursing, and Victoria Record, EdD, MS, RN, AGPCNP-BC, CNE, board member, New York State Board of Nursing, will both receive the Exceptional Contribution Award, which is given for significant contribution by a member who is not a president or executive officer and has demonstrated support of NCSBN’s mission.

Connecticut Enacts Nurse Licensure Compact | NCSBN

The National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) is a not-for-profit organization whose purpose is to provide an organization through which boards of nursing act and counsel together on matters of common interest and concern affecting the public health, safety and welfare, including the development of licensing examinations in nursing. This compact will change that, making it easier and more accessible for nurses to come to Connecticut and find work, supporting our economy and our state’s health care at the same time. This is a strong step forward for our state in protecting and ensuring public health.” Although the NLC has been enacted in Connecticut, the legislation goes into effect on Oct. 1, 2025, and an implementation process must be completed before its residents will be able to apply for a multistate license, and before nurses in other NLC states who hold a multistate license will be able to practice there.

As board liaison, Smith brought her background in substance use disorders and mental health to the committee. “I saw the duties of my role as, one, to help focus the group on the charges, and two, to relay back to the Board how the committee was doing, to serve as a conduit of information. I remember in our first meeting, everyone was a bit overwhelmed. The staff did a fantastic job and the committee worked through the charges one at a time, putting aside personal opinions on the use of marijuana. The general thought was, ‘we can do this; we can get through it.’
