The title of the study is The State of the Doctor of Nursing Practice Degree: A Survey of Graduates, Academic Leaders, and Employers. So, the AACN funded a national study to assess the current state of the DNP graduates. There has been significant growth in the DNP programs. From 2010, there were 156 programs reported in our annual survey and up to 394 in 2021 with over 40,000 students in 2021 enrolled in DNP programs. The study that we conducted was a mixed methods design, and it was used to look at five different areas. One, we conducted a scoping review of the literature. Two, we analyzed curricula from 50 nationally representative DNP programs.

There's a wonderful study that Richard Smiley led with some evidence-based recommendations around ATD programs that indicates there are three or four, maybe seven, really best practices that are hopefully being standardized across the country related to ATD programs. How are we dealing with DUIs and DWIs that are non-work related? What's the home for them? Because, I don't know, is it the same thing? This is just something that we hear from people constantly around confusion and really does have a chilling effect on self-support. Non-ADA-compliant questions on licensure, this should be low-hanging fruit.

To complement these virtual sessions, an in-person focus group was held this past March at the NCSBN midyear meeting. A world cafe format was used to facilitate the discussions and to gain a broader perspective from a cross section of the membership by including board members, non-presidents, and staff non-EOs to engage in the conversation. Participants in the focus group virtual and the world cafe perceived NCSBN as a trusted resource that provides critical support for nursing regulatory bodies and serves as a hub for networking and professional development.
