    The National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) is a not-for-profit organization whose purpose is to provide an organization through which boards of nursing act and counsel together on matters of common interest and concern affecting the public health, safety and welfare, including the development of licensing examinations in nursing. The creation of "Financial Conflict of Interest Statements" for all board and staff members was prompted by this duty.  Finally, a Duty of Obedience requires that a board member act consistently with the organization's mission and goals.  The board engages legal counsel to assist in identifying legal liabilities and risks for the organization. (Qualifications and expectations of legal counsel are specified in policy 6.4).

Her passion for registered nursing is reflected in her pursuit of advancing scholarship and research in nursing education, serving on more than 30 teams, committees and councils in the last 15 years. Reuben Argel Area I Member, Washington 2025-2027 Reuben Argel is the Director of Nursing Assistant Education for the Washington State Board of Nursing, is a retired Army Officer and has been a registered nurse since 1997. He aspires to lead in nursing regulatory excellence to protect those living in his current home state of Washington, as well as across the NCSBN membership. Maureen Bentz Area II Member, North Dakota 2024-2026 Maureen Bentz, commonly known as “Moe” is the Director of Administrative Services and Licensing at the North Dakota Board of Nursing.

Nova Award Eligibility: An individual who is a member with less than five years tenure in nursing regulation or in their role Description: As the name implies, nova is a star showing an increase in brightness.
