    It has evolved into one of the leading voices of regulation across the world. NCSBN’s membership is comprised of the NRBs in the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and four U.S. territories — American Samoa, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands and the Virgin Islands. There are three exam user members. There are also 26 associate members that are either NRBs or empowered regulatory authorities from other countries or territories. 3 The NCSBN Mission NCSBN provides education, service and research through collaborative leadership to promote evidence-based regulatory excellence for patient safety and public protection.

    In 2020, NCSBN launched a research study to investigate the effect of rapid changes made in nursing education programs in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The “National Prelicensure RN Study: Assessing the Impact of COVID-19 on Nursing Education” is currently underway at 55 nursing education sites across 26 U.S. states. The study seeks to determine the extent to which programs changed their instructional formats due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The study will then prospectively and longitudinally track over 700 prelicensure nursing students and 450 faculty to measure engagement, academic performance and early career experience.

    In correlated questions, respondents were asked if they had previously worked as an LPN/VN (for RNs) or as a nurse aide (for LPN/VNs) in their cur- rent employing facility. About 19% of the RNs reported previously working as an LPN/VN for an average of 7.5 years. About 60% of the RNs had worked as nurse aides for an average of about 3 years and 62% of the LPN/VNs reported an average of about 4 years of previous work as nurse aides or assis- tants. About 8% of the RN respondents reported that they had previously worked as an LPN/VN in their current employing facility, and 26% of the LPN/VN respondents reported previous work as a nurse aide/assistant in their current employing facility (see Figure 4).

    There is growing support for the next session. • HI - has passed a resolution for the Centers for Nursing to convene a workgroup to study the NLC. APRN Compact: N. Livanos reported that Arizona’s legislative session ends today; however, the APRN compact bill did not make the cut to be heard on the House floor. The legislature will be in recess until August 1. 4. Rules Committee Update: Proposed Rules Discussion A. Henley, NLC Rules Committee chair, reviewed the proposed rules comment period. The public hearing will be held on June 26. Commissioners may continue to submit comments on the webpage. After the hearing, the Rules 3 Committee will consider all comments and present the final rules to the NLC Executive Committee, then to the NLC Commission.
