  • Board Action | NCSBN

    Site: ncsbn.org

If a violation is found, Boards of Nursing may impose disciplinary actions, such as reprimands, fines, license suspension, probation, or revocation, depending on the severity of the violation. This public safety objective is not time-limited. Emergency Actions After a BON's consideration of the complaint and the immediate evidence available, an emergency action may be necessary. Emergency actions usually take the form of a summary suspension of a nurse’s license. The general standard for this action is clear and convincing evidence that continued practice by the nurse would present a danger of immediate and serious harm to the public.

  • Uniform Licensure Requirements | NCSBN

    Site: ncsbn.org

NCSBN established a list of Uniform Licensure Requirements in 1999 to outline the responsibilities of boards and nurse applicants throughout the licensure process. The list was updated in 2011. Uniform Licensure Requirements (ULRs) are the essential prerequisites for initial, endorsement, renewal and reinstatement licensure needed across every NCSBN jurisdiction to ensure the safe and competent practice of nursing. ULRs protect the public by setting consistent standards and promoting a health care system that is fluid and accessible by removing barriers to care and maximizing portability for nurses. They also assure the consumer that a nurse in one state has met the requirements of the nurses in every other state. ULRs support the fact that the expectations for the education of a nurse and the responsibilities of a nurse are the same throughout every NCSBN member board jurisdiction in the United States.

You know, for example, how many lawyer jokes do you think are out there? Right? Like hundreds? Thousands maybe? The answer is actually three. The rest are true. But why are lawyers such easy targets? Well, lawyers are easy targets because we haven't done a good enough job at the front-end. And as a result, we're subject to ridicule. Now here's some good news. Nurses have done a terrific job. This is from an article from Gallup, December 26, 2017. "For the 16th consecutive year, Americans' ratings of the honesty and ethical standards of 22 occupations finds nurses at the top of the list.

While we cling to old style management, younger workers are demanding a different approach. What will be our succession plan for the future? I have been fortunate to observe many different leadership styles in the past 26 years as a staff member with the Texas Board of Nursing, working with NCSBN and currently serving on the NCSBN Leadership Succession Committee (LSC).

All rights reserved. 11 - Yeah. Yes, or complaint - Let me ask you about staff. So, Myrtle, you had mentioned that, you know, staff were quarantined and had to work from home very spur of the moment like all of us. Are you continuing the work at home or are they a hybrid or all back in the office? - At IPN, they are remote and they will remain remote. We did a survey with our employees to find out because we wanted their feedback and say, "Hey, what is it that you all want?" Because we're not a big program. Well, we're a big program, but we have a small staff. - I was going to say you are a big program. - So we have about 25, 26 employees.
