Eventually, her physician cut her off. She began diverting from the workplace because she was concerned that if she didn't stay on the opioids that her period of withdrawal would cause her to lose her job and lose her home with her two kids. Now, that's not an excuse. It's a reason. And it was very real for her. She was ultimately caught at work. And at her workplace, they were mandatory reporters, obviously, to the state. They also had a policy of reporting anyone caught for diversion to local law enforcement. And so, at the same time she was reported to the state board of nursing, she was also arrested and charged with 26 felonies, one for each vial of wasted narcotics that she had taken.

The IRE Fellowship Program is a four-year program requiring the completion of yearly projects. In order to achieve recognition as a fellow, a nurse regulator must attend all four of the scheduled Institutes as well as complete a scholarly project each year they attend. Fellows are expected to make a significant contribution to NCSBN’s body of knowledge.
