Maria accepted the apology, but asked Jamie not to post any further comments. Jamie self- reported to the BON and is awaiting the BON’s decision. www.ncsbn.org 7 This scenario emphasizes the importance for nurses to carefully consider the implications of posting any information about patients on any type of website. While this website was hospital sponsored, it was available to friends and family. In some contexts it is appropriate for a nurse to communicate empathy and support for patients, but they should be cautious not to disclose private information, such as types of medications the patient is taking.

You know, some of the AI tools get criticized because the performance accuracy is like 82% instead of 95%. And yet, if you get any group of clinicians together to look at any image, the accuracy is actually in 60, 70% range. And yet we give the machines a hard time. So, again, I think we just need to be a little bit fair and I think I made this statement last year too, that we need to be a little bit fair to machines in terms of what they can do. They're really there to help us ...

From 1999 to 2016, there was an overall 24% increase in suicide rates, and as you can see on this slide not necessarily evenly distributed across all different states. Now, you know, suicide and opioids you may have seen, have tracked together. And while it's difficult to really study accurately, there is an estimate now that about 20% to 30% of opioid-related overdose deaths are likely suicides. Most people who die of an opioid-related overdose death don't necessarily leave a suicide note, but of those suicides where there is actual documentation that this is a suicide attempt, that the proportion of those suicides that involve overdoses has doubled between 1999 and 2014.

And you put all of those pieces together, and everything fell into place. So we are trying to tease out that process of critical thinking and clinical judgment, hence that six step unfolding case scenario. So that is the way, and all of that information is available on NCSBN's website through newsletters and through the different research studies that Joe and Will were talking about. All of that is available under the NGN section on ncsbn.org. So I encourage everybody to go and read. And as more information and tools become available, we will be posting and updating that piece of the website. - Okay, thank you.

Learn about NCSBN’s Safe Student Reports study, which analyzed student practice errors and near misses in prelicensure nursing programs from 2018–2023. This study lays the groundwork for healthcare professions worldwide to study errors and near misses in their students’ clinical experiences and begins to examine potential strategies faculty can implement to diminish student errors. The results of this research have been published in the January 2023 issue of the Journal of Nursing Education. So, let's get to the next generation. We're not the only ones who saw this as a problem. Many people saw collection sites as a problem. And there's been some steps to help in the process of collection. So the first thing that you saw come out in the next generation of testing was mobile collectors. So mobile collectors who will come out and do a collection for you. I don't know if anyone's ever used a mobile collector. Good. Solves a lot of issue. Costs a lot. But at least it helps solve a little niche of the problem. ©2025 National Council of State Boards of Nursing, Inc.
