Standards should be revisited when test specifications, scope of practice, education programs, or other factors change. When we change the test plan, we need to reevaluate the standard. Thank you very much. I hope you didn't fall asleep. For more information about standard setting, please visit our website.

If the BON is uncertain about the decision to license an applicant, a psychological evaluation/risk assessment is recommended. The purpose of this is to systematically and objectively assess risk to public safety and use data to make an informed and fair decision about licensure. By including risk assessment in the licensure evaluation process, the profile of the applicant becomes multidimensional and more in-depth. BONs will be better equipped to determine risk to public safety and avoid potential bias against an applicant.

An examination of this caliber must not only identify current nursing practice, but also undergo a development process that ensures fairness to all candidates. The NCLEX examination development process assures that essential content is presented in a fair and sensitive manner without bias. Recognizing that the nursing student population becomes more culturally diverse every year, NCSBN has historically reviewed NCLEX examinations and items for cultural sensitivity. Each item on the examination is reviewed for both fairness and sensitivity.

Following the event, NCSBN Project Manager Katie Yandell, PMP, expressed her appreciation for the work of the Examinations team. “An important aspect of the launch, completely separate from building the new exam, is providing accurate and timely information to the exam’s stakeholders. The REx-PN Conference, in conjunction with prior informational events and website resources, was an opportunity to do just that. My thanks to the team for their great work in planning and facilitating the event.” continued from page 12 New NCLEX® Website Helps Candidates on Their Journey Now there’s a more efficient and streamlined way to get the most current and accurate information about the NCLEX-RN® and NCLEX-PN® Examinations.
