Phase II of the TTP study was conducted in 34 nonhospital settings including nursing homes, home health and public health; in three states (Illinois, North Carolina and Ohio); and with licensed practical nurses (LPNs) and RNs. The researchers had some challenges recruiting sites and new nurses for the study, even though the recruitment period was twice as long as that in Phase I (six months versus three months).

These sites enrolled 44 new graduate nurses (including both registered nurses [RNs] and licensed practical/vocational nurses [LPN/VNs]) and 68 precep tors. Similar to Phase I, new graduate nurses in intervention sites will be assigned to trained preceptors and will be required to complete five online modules developed by NCSBN.

Because passing the NCLEX is usually the final step in the nurse licensure process, the number of people passing the NCLEX (“pass rate”) is a good indicator of how many new nurses are entering the profession in the U.S. These tables provide the most recent data on the NCLEX testing volume and the associated pass rates. It's part of our test of time. And again, to do that…so one of the things we've tried to do, I mentioned at the end of the last talk, and we want to probably do more of this, is to make it so that patients automatically get a callback from an urgent care visit and say, "How is that sore throat?
