But it only receives about 45 applications a year. Compare that to about the 3,000 people who want to become a lawyer in Ontario every year, the 4,000 engineering applicants, the 9,000 teaching applicants, the 10,000 would-be real estate agents, and the little over 12,000 26-year-old nursing applicants. And assuming that those 12,000 nursing applicants are no different than any other 26-year-olds and no different than other medical, dental, or law students, wow, that's going to be a lot of work. So even if you don't agree with the 70%, 50% is a horrible number, given the amount of effort that is invested. And why do they fail? They fail for typically three reasons, one of three reasons. One is they just never deliver, they just never come to completion. A lot of money, a lot of time, a lot of energy and they die in the mine. The second is they finish, and in some regards, they finish in a textbook way. And oftentimes the technology folks... and for the tech folks in the room, I'm currently an interim CIO for a medical device company, the executive roles I play are CIO roles, so I'm with you.

What patient rating satisfaction probably does a pretty good job with is, "How was the parking and how was the wait time?" But there's no evidence that it improves patient outcomes. And this is really significant because professional advancement in many institutions is directly tied to patient rating satisfaction surveys.
