North Dakota, like most states, has been experi- encing the shortage and misdistribution of nurses. Moreover, in the last few years nursing education programs in North Dakota have begun to struggle to recruit and retain qualified faculty. In the last five years, the state of North Dakota has increased its efforts to satisfy the need for nurses through a “grow-your-own” process by expand- ing nursing education programs in community colleges and distance sites in rural communities.
