Does NCSBN have any resources available where students or recent grads would be able to experience these new item formats or these new item types? ©2022 National Council of State Boards of Nursing, Inc. All rights reserved. 7 - Yes. We actually have a couple of resources on the website that Emily mentioned earlier. I know one of them is nclex.org, and certainly, you can get to it by following a trail from ncsbn.org. We have made available to the public a list of what we call sample questions. So, it's a representative sample of questions that include regular traditional questions as well as NGN questions as well.

So, very early on, I recognized that learning clinical judgment and clinical reasoning were key ingredients to becoming an effective nurse. Leading up to the NGN, it felt kind of like a snowball. There was so much conversation and buzz around it that I think a lot of people had a nice fair warning. Because of the conversation, there was a lot of idea-sharing, resources and support. There was a learning curve as well. Some wondered, “How is this different than what we were doing before?” For us, we had this heightened awareness that, yes, this new test is coming, so we must get ready.

The model allows us to understand how examinees at different ability levels will likely perform on items of varying difficulty, enabling us to create a fair and precise assessment of nursing knowledge and skills. In summary, the NCLEX scoring system allows examinees to earn partial credit on multipoint items, giving us a more complete picture of their nursing knowledge. The Partial Credit Model transforms these scores onto the NCLEX measurement scale.
