As Phase I progresses with the study of registered nurses (RNs) in hospitals, Phase II initiates the investigation of RNs and licensed practical/ vocational nurses (LPN/VNs) in long-term care, public health, ambulatory care and home health settings. NCSBN and the TTP Advisory Panel selected 44 sites across these four non- hospital settings to participate in Phase II, which began April 1, 2012, and will continue through Oct. 31, 2013. By having diversity in site and license type in Phase II, NCSBN will be able to determine external validity of the TTP model, as well as the feasibility of imple- menting a standardized transition model in nonhospital sites.

Phase II took place in nonhospi- tal sites that hired new nurses, and included RNs and licensed practical/vocational nurses (LPN/VNs). The primary goal of Phase II was to evaluate the feasibility of implementing a transition to practice program in nonhospital sites. Both quantitative and qualitative data were collected.

And the session limit was a barrier. But with our outpatient clinic, you know, we're open 7:00 to 7:00, Monday through Friday. That's not 24/7 like a hospital is. So, what do we do about all the times outside of those hours that staff need support? So, in August 2021, we stood up what we call the Wellness Triage Pager. And this is a paging system where an on-call social worker responds 24/7, within 60 minutes, to the feelings of, "I feel overwhelmed," "I feel concerned." So, we really tried to be careful and strategic in our phrasing because we certainly want emergent issues to go the appropriate routes.

Nursing homes were report- ed as the employment setting of 10.5% of respondents, and 6.2% reported working in pediatrics (see Table 5). This represented an increase in employment in critical care and nursing homes, and a decrease in pediatric employment compared to the 1999 RN Practice Analysis (Hertz et al., 2000). The differences in employment sites might be due to the inclusion of more foreign-educated nurses in the current study. Approximately 27% of the 146 nurses educated outside the U.S. reported working in nursing homes compared to about 3% of baccalaureate prepared nurses and 7% of associate degree nurses.
