Opportunities for educator involvement will also be highlighted. 2020 | Event Presentation Standard Setting Standard setting is a process used by testing professionals to determine the passing score on a test. It is an important step in establishing the validity and legal defensibility of an exam program. The NCLEX-RN and NCLEX-PN exams reevaluate their respective passing standards triennially.

Each NCLEX item should measure only the knowledge, ability or skills in nursing DIF means that an item behaves differently for various examinee groups of equivalent ability DIF Terms Reference group • traditional demographic groups for NCLEX (females, white, US) Focal group • males, non-white (Asian Indian, Asian Other, Pacific Islander, African American, Hispanic, Native American, Canadian) The Concept of DIF DIF Panel Review • If an item shows a statistically significant amount of DIF, it is reviewed by a DIF panel to determine if there is an identifiable problem with the content • If the panel determines that there is bias, the item is reviewed by the NCLEX Examinations Committee (NEC) If an Item Shows DIF, So What?
