The 2024 National Nursing Workforce Study represents the largest and most comprehensive national survey of the U.S. nursing workforce. In the past 2 years, the workforce has exhibited greater stability, marked by a return to a more typical age distribution. Trends further confirm continued progress in diversifying and increasing the educational attainment of the nursing workforce. Inflation and increased demand for nursing services have likely also contributed to notable increases in RN and LPN/LVN salaries.

Explore completed research funded by the NCSBN Technical Advisory Committee, showcasing projects that advance nursing assessment and NCLEX-related evidence. The purpose of this research was to explore whether there was evidence of item preknowledge and compromised items in the second sample using the parameters estimated from the first sample. The results showed that for one nonadaptive operational examination, two items (of 111) were potentially exposed, and two candidates (of 1,172) showed some indications of preknowledge on multiple items.

Cheng received her PhD in Psychology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She has been a faculty member at the University of Notre Dame since 2008. She is currently the Editor of the British Journal of Mathematical and Statistical Psychology. Research interests include theoretical development and applications of item response theory, computerized adaptive testing, differential item functioning (DIF), and cognitive diagnostic modeling.
