So think about that cloze item that I gave you where you had to pick the disease process and the evidence of that disease process. So I'm going to put this in not those terms but let's assume that you have to pick…you get these tokens, it's a cloze item, so the capital of, and you have to pick from that list, France is Paris, the capital of Egypt is Japan.

This item type is a drag-and-drop cloze which is a variation of the extended drag-and-drop item type. The candidate would have to complete the sentence by dragging the tokens, the word choices, to the targets, the boxes within the phrase. There may be more than one phrase for drag-and-drop cloze items.

Layer 0 (the observation layer) contains two naturally observable entities: client needs and clinical decisions. Layers 1–3 (the construct layers) are layers of cogni- tive analysis of the unobserved construct in the form of a series of cognitive operations. This example of drop-down Cloze item has three options, two of which the examinee answered correctly and one of which was answered incorrectly. Summing across the points show that this examinee earned two total points. Cloze items may also come in the form of a drag and drop format. Candidates must drag tokens into the targets to complete the passage. In this example, a candidate correctly answers one out of three targets and earns a total score of one point.
