The RNs and the LPN/VNs had statistically significant differences in their ratings on the following practice setting tasks: (1) administer medications by common routes (PO, SQ, IM, IV, etc.) (χ2=9.41, df=2, p<.01); (2) administer medications to large groups of clients (10 or more) (χ2=80.47, df=2, p<.01); (3) provide di- rect care to six or more clients (χ2=55.29, df=2, p<.01); (4) document a legally defensible ac- count of care provided (χ2=6.50, df=2, p<.05); and (5) work effectively within a health care team (χ2=6.35, df=2, p<.05).

Advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs) are not included in the NLC. Based on federal supremacy1, nurses in this category are exempt from licensure in the state of practice when they hold an active nurse license in any state. This exemption does not apply when a nurse is practicing in a civilian facility in a non-federal role. In this case, the nurse will need to hold appropriate licensure in the state of practice. Although federal supremacy exempts a nurse from holding a license in the state of practice when they hold an active nurse license in any state, this pertains to a single state license.
