One interviewer would lead the interview while the other took notes. We did not record the interviews because they often took place in non-work public settings such as coffee shops. Interview notes were reviewed by each of the 14 members who participated in the site visit research. We then met to develop consensus on key themes. We then coded the interviews within those initial themes and we reviewed the themes and codings iteratively to ensure that no new themes were emerging. We identified four key thematic areas that I'll talk about today.

These exams ensure that every licensed nurse has met state education requirements and is competent to practice nursing safely. In addition to the NCLEX, NCSBN offers education, information and resources for BONs, and tracks legislation at both the state and federal levels. Legislative resources such as talking points and FAQs, nursing data, and consultation are available to the BONs, the nursing profession, legislators and other policymakers, and consumers. NCSBN serves as a resource to both Congressional and state legislators requesting education and information on nursing regulatory issues.

More than a century ago, nurses in many parts of the world argued that there was a need to regulate the profession of nursing. This development started in several countries almost simultaneously, and it is now spread to almost all nations of the world. Indeed, for anyone that wants more information on this topic, I recommend you visit our global regulatory atlas or review the content of our global profile published as a supplement to the "Journal of Nursing Regulation." Furthermore, the founding mothers of this organization recognize the unique and essential contribution that regulators could make, and as a result, bonded together and founded more than 40 years ago NCSBN, an organization that has been at the forefront of regulatory advancement for more than 4 decades.

As a result, this mixed method study was able to leverage over 4,000 course base observations, supplemented by hundreds and hundreds of early career observations, and then also the rich personal narratives that emerged out of targeted focus groups. Before I move on, this isn't really kind of part of my kind of talking points here, but I think it's a critical thing to call out because I think Linda did an excellent job in the keynote about how we, as researchers, need to think about very complex challenges and issues and how we approach them from a research perspective.

When High-Fidelity Patient Simulation in Nursing Education was published in 2010, Nehring found only 13 research articles on nursing student outcomes, namely, satisfaction with the simulation experience (6 studies), self- confidence (7 studies), self-ratings (4 studies), knowledge (4 studies), and skill performance or competence (3 studies). In these reports, the results were mixed. In most of the studies, students reported satisfaction with the simulation experience (Childs & Sepples, 2006; Jeffries & Rizzolo, 2006; Schoening, Sittner, & Todd, 2006) and usually reported higher self-confidence after simulation experiences (Bearnson & Wiker, 2005; Bremner, Aduddell, Bennett, & VanGeest, 2006; Childs & Sepples, 2006; Jeffries & Rizzolo, 2006; Schoening et al., 2006).
