Additionally, nurse volunteer panels perform ongoing item reviews to ensure elimination of bias to provide a fair examination for all exam writers. Our psychometrics team also diligently monitors all REx-PN items and perform statistical analyses to ensure each item is devoid of potential bias and every exam administered falls within the exam specifications. These processes ensure the REx-PN is testing nursing knowledge only.

And so, we talked about the process that we had in place. We created a team that brought together leaders from different parts of the organization that met regularly to support the needs of the inquiry, and so, we would then share with staff what we were doing. So, for example, we were in the process of collecting all of the documents that we have about our...for example, one of the things that they wanted were all of the different iterations of our registration and renewal forms.

You should therefore not permit yourself even to think while you walk, but divert your attention by the objects surrounding you." It sounds like mindfulness to me. Thomas Jefferson lived to be 83. That's pretty good back then. Having what I think we would all strive for ourselves, our families, our patients, and our communities, a vigorous life, a life which we enjoy, a life that enriches those around us. But then there are all those others where you go, "Yeah, we were pretty sure that other patient also was a victim." And then there's those that survived, the 130 who were resuscitated or saved. So, when I got into this area, I was working on the child psychiatry team of a large urban hospital in Atlanta, and I was assigned my first case of Munchausen by proxy. It turned out not to be Munchausen by proxy. We all learned a lot from that case. It was a rare genetic disorder that a prior child had died of. How many of you deal with nurses with Munchausen's syndrome for licensure allegations or reports?

We have the monitors and the headwall in the class. So, it's practical. We will lecture 10 to 15 minutes, and then they will get up and they will perform some type of exercise. You're covering all of your learning styles. They love it. The buy-in is not a hard sell for them. They love it. We also do team-based learning. And they're used to that because they came from the centers, in kindergarten, K, first, all that. So, they love a good center. And then they love the team-based approach, that's what they're going to be doing anyway.

The employee referrals have went up 15% and I think that's because the connection that I've made with the employers on West Virginia Restore and what we want to do at the RN Board. And then other referrals have went up to 8%. So we have the message that's developed in conjunction with NCSBN because we want to identify these nurses because what do these nurses look like? Everyone. And so I talk about stuff to look for. And we want to remove them from practice and we want to get them on to a path for healing right away and returned into practice when it's deemed safe by the people. And we just want to be one team and we want to help our nurses in West Virginia. But at this time, I'd like to take time for questions.

We thank those states for giving us their orders to use for this presentation, but do want to make sure that any comments made about that are from our opinions, they're not comments from those exact states. We did anonymize all of our examples. We didn't want to put nurses on blast just because their order was lucky enough to be picked for these examples, so there are redacted copies of orders in the materials https://www.ncsbn.org/past-event/2025-dcm-conference ©2025 National Council of State Boards of Nursing, Inc.

And if you look through them, most of them are suggesting that this is not what the space, the world needed and a lot of practitioners saying, "This is going to have a devastating effect on some of my patients that I will no longer be able to prescribe for." There's a 30-day, essentially, waiver period extension for new patients and a 6-month extension for existing patients. They have to see you in person for you to continue treating them and prescribing for them. So a lot of comments coming in. We don't know what the DEA will do, but it's an important issue, maybe the most important issue right now for May 11th.
