    So, one of the things you can do is have board and staff education on these issues. So, you can provide educational opportunities about the prevalence of behavioral health disorders in nursing, how to identify individuals at risk. And we're going to have a presentation later on today to help with that. And the ability to speak in non- biased, non-judgmental, and non-stigmatizing terms to nurses that you are interviewing for your investigations. Or even talking with them at your conferences, your discipline conferences. You can train investigators to ask the right questions and how to address them and should they find that a respondent is at risk, how to react and take action.

    When talking about DIF, we always compare two groups, reference group versus focal group. Reference group is usually traditional demographic group for NCLEX, such as females, white, or U.S. Reference group needs to compare to the focal group. In NCLEX, focal group is males, non-white, or Canadian. Remember, DIF is always comparing two groups, reference group versus focal group. Here is a graphic representation of DIF. DIF is always comparing two groups of people. In this example, we compare females and males. Female is a reference group and male is a focal group.
