    The National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) is a not-for-profit organization whose purpose is to provide an organization through which boards of nursing act and counsel together on matters of common interest and concern affecting the public health, safety and welfare, including the development of licensing examinations in nursing. We want to partner with select academic institutions to promote regulatory science and help equip future health care leaders with the knowledge, skills and abilities needed to succeed in the complex and ever-changing fields of nursing, health care delivery and health profession regulation. Students will also have access to NCSBN’s Center for Regulatory Excellence (CRE)  which offers unique opportunities to serve as paid  NCSBN Scholars in Residence  for graduate students or faculty, as well as grants to graduate students and seasoned researchers for scientific research projects related to nursing regulation and policy.

To meet this responsibility, the regulatory decisions of the NRBs must be evidence-based, clearly defined, consistent, targeted and proportionate to the level of risk determination. As part of its responsibility to the public, the NRB’s regulatory decisions must also be made in a timely, efficient, effective, and transparent manner while allowing for consistent and comprehensive evaluation of regulatory process and performance.
