And someone else might disagree based on their states, but I'm not sure offhand that the medical board would have seen this case if it was not...assuming it was disciplined at the hospital level, or investigated through the root cause analysis and didn't go any farther. - Those are all great points, and I'll answer the last one first. Look at the turnover that we have had. When nurses come in, they're not ready to practice, they don't feel confident. They burn out, they leave. The practice is not what they expected it to be. In fact, I heard that the other day, that somebody was saying that one of the key points that they think that when you're looking at competencies needs to be is around that professional development and professional identity. They need to understand new nurses and that that are some of the key competencies, that if we could prepare our graduates to really be ready for practice in different environments, different settings, and really understand what nursing is.

Judge Frank said this tendency to imaginatively create facts was due to the judge's peculiar traits, dispositions, bias, and habits. As a hearing officer, I wanted to try my best to avoid this outcome. The method I developed stemmed from a simple question, how could I overcome my own biases when deciding a case? I'm going to pause at various points in my presentation to present insights into good fact-finding. And this is the first. You have a handout sheet in your packet that lists all ...

Tiki's still coughing, and she even used the word, "Sounds like Tiki was having a death rattle." So this is a real concern. She was still having difficulty. She had a vaporizer. Things weren't getting better. So three days later, she went for a second visit, which is where this slide picks up. This time you have a different vet there, and this time the veterinarian performs x-rays. He says, "Ooh, there's a severe pleural effusion," basically, fluid in the lungs. I just wanted to show off, you know, pleural effusion, you know.

So to the extent that the State Council and the National Council of State Boards wants to embrace this effort, we really welcome it. ©2023 National Council of State Boards of Nursing, Inc. All rights reserved. 3 I'll just end by saying that, unfortunately, two weeks ago in my congressional district in Eastern Connecticut, a home health nurse lost her life in a home visit for someone who was on a sex offender list. She was alone at the time that she entered the dwelling. And unfortunately, it's an example of where different kinds of practices where she was not going to be alone with a high-risk patient that had been clearly identified, really could have literally meant the difference between life and death.
