The results of this research provide test developers of high stakes exam- inations, whether they be educators or regulators, a comparative framework for an alternate path of item development aiming for a negotiated middle ground somewhere between austere and efficient multiple choice items and the stimulus rich, yet often unattainable simulation testing environment. There are things that we can do to move forward, to make this more attractive, and make us more efficient. Increased use of video conferencing. We're doing that more now. Increased allowance of telehealth services. Use of self-collection drug testing methodology instead of going to a collection site and having someone stand next to you and watch you pee in a cup. You know, you can do a saliva test and put your phone in front of you, and someone can watch you collect that saliva specimen now. Acceptance of more locally sourced treatment services.

So, you have civil rights leaders from, kind of, across the spectrum, all thought healthcare was an issue. And they were much more involved in a lot of the changes in healthcare and issues that we deal with today than we tend to think about and tend to, kind of, give them credit for. https://www.ncsbn.org/13621.htm ©2019 National Council of State Boards of Nursing, Inc. All rights reserved. 2 So, that's kind of what we're going to talk about a little bit today. Come on, there we go. You know, to understand why and how we needed civil rights to be involved in health care, we kind of have to understand what went first.

And ideally, that committee or that team is continuing to bring you great things. But with the first implementation, you want to start small. Now, one analogy I have is I'm a big fan of Dave Ramsey. And Dave Ramsey has this thing called the Debt Snowball if you're familiar with it. You have all your credit cards, you line them up from the largest to the smallest, you start paying off that small one. And as you do that, you take all the money that you were able to put on that and you add it to the second smallest, and you go up and up. And by the time you get to the big one, you've got a lot of revenue that you've been already spending every month to attack that one with.

There's a lot of literature on professional ethics and standards, but it's not integrated with the rest. It's specialists in that area. Or we find that this is more from the medical schools, it was very astounding to find that by half of the medical schools which were surveyed, about 26 medical schools which were surveyed in the United States, and of course, everyone's required to take our medical ethics course, but only half required it as part of the requirements to pass the medical degree. ©2018 National Council of State Boards of Nursing, Inc.

Well, there are some things where you kind of get your information, and when I say communication, take it broadly, it just means getting information or providing information to others. It doesn't mean you're ©2024 National Council of State Boards of Nursing, Inc. All rights reserved. 9 audibly talking or typing an email. But the point is communication, you might go in through the NCLEX admin site, you get that little flowchart thing, click on a thing, see some stuff, but then there are other times, there's actions happening related to the exam in your emails, right? You might even have to pick up the phone. Well, okay, we're not going to say you're not allowed to email or call us.

We've got 40 years of history of handwritten chain of custodies and requisition forms coming into the laboratory, and a five looks like an eight, the eight looks like a five. And it's really difficult. One of the things that is really changing that particular aspect of our field is the electronic chain of custody. And so from the collection site where you've got the original driver's license or the medical record, or what have you, you can either scan in the information or type it in with a good, you know, visible ID. And so that's a really key thing because we got to make sure that the information's tied to the right sample, right?

And the size of the material that you see right here represents how many times we heard nurses say that they had used that material to make or modify or create something to improve patient care. The nursing specialties who we heard from when surveying and interviewing on site. So the red that you see represents that they had something that they made so they could hold in their hand. And the green represents they had an idea for something, but they didn't know how to make it. So some of you focus on the specialties that are on the far left side.
