It contains a database of both occupa- tional licensing-focused articles, editorials and studies that we have been compiling. It also contains a large library of letters and statements NCSBN has submitted to federal government agencies and Congress on issues of importance to state boards of nursing.”

In this program, all prelicensure nursing schools (LPN/VN, ADN, diploma, BSN, accelerated BSN and Master’s entry) in the 35 participating states provide data to their nursing regulatory body (NRB) related to their demographics and their evidence-based quality indicators. Each survey question must be answered before the nursing program can advance to the next question to ensure comprehensive data. In 2010, the Carnegie study of nursing education (Benner, Sutphen, Leonard, & Day, 2010), which compared and evaluated nine nursing programs with excellent reputations for teaching and learning, studied the state of nursing education. Of Benner et al.’s (2010) 26 transformative recommendations, four of them support nurses advancing their education. They also made a strong case for increasing the rigor of nursing education, and integrating clinical cases and practical experiences throughout the educational process.
